More than five years after its rocky launch, Cyberpunk 2077 is seeing a massive surge in players on Steam. The game just recorded its highest concurrent player count in two and a half years, proving that a second chance is possible in the gaming world. According to SteamDB data, the title recently peaked at over 100,000 concurrent players, a number it has not reached since the launch of the Phantom Liberty expansion in late 2023.
The resurgence appears to be driven by several factors. A major 2.2 update rolled out recently, adding new customization options, vehicle features, and quality-of-life improvements. Many players are also returning to the game ahead of the anticipated release of the Mac version, which promises full support for the expansion and ray tracing. a free weekend promotion on Steam has drawn in new players who were previously hesitant due to the game's infamous launch bugs.
Night City is buzzing again, and the numbers show it. For those who have not played since 2020, the current version is a vastly different experience. The core role-playing elements, the writing, and the dense open world have always been strong, but now the technical performance finally matches the ambition. If you have been waiting for the right moment to dive in, this is it.
