NVIDIA's Ace AI teammate technology, first demonstrated over a year ago, has finally arrived in PUBG: Battlegrounds. The feature allows players to squad up with an AI-controlled partner that can understand voice commands, communicate, and make tactical decisions in real time. However, this high-tech helper comes with some serious hardware demands.
The AI teammate is not a simple bot. It uses NVIDIA's Ace platform, which combines large language models with game-specific logic. This means the AI can listen to your requests, respond naturally, and even adapt its playstyle based on the situation. For example, you can tell it to scout a building, provide covering fire, or share loot. It will also call out enemy positions and suggest strategies.
But here is the catch. To use the AI teammate, players need a high-end PC with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 or 40 series graphics card. The system requires significant local processing power because the AI runs on the player's own hardware rather than on cloud servers. This limits the feature to a relatively small portion of the PUBG player base.
The rollout is also time-limited. The AI teammate is only available for a short period, which suggests this is more of a test than a permanent addition. PUBG developer Krafton and NVIDIA are likely gathering data on how players interact with the AI before deciding on a wider release.
For now, PUBG players with the right hardware can experience what it is like to have a truly intelligent squadmate. For everyone else, it remains a glimpse into the future of AI in gaming.
